How do you animate an arrow?

I going to use the arrows like its used in this image:

(I'm not fussed about the 3D effect they used. I just want the curved shape of the arrow)

I guessing I need to use the orient feature to keep the arrow facing in the direction of motion so no problem there. The problem is that I can't seem to manage to make the arrow grow and move in a curved motion.

Please help!
