Stop action not working, (and other errors) please help!

Hi all,

this is my first attempt at an interactive graphic with flash professional.

Working on a Mac (OS 10.8.5), Flash Proefessional CC.

I've created 6 frames, and I'm ready to start animating. I want users to be able to click on one of the 5 buttons in the first frame, which will take them to a corresponding frame that contains a bunch of buttons that link to external websites. At each of those frames there will also be a button that returns users to the first frame.

This should be super-simple.

The problem is from the very get go, I can't even get the stop command to work [ stop(); ] so when I test (cmd enter), it just continually loops through the 6 frames.

I did see one forum in which someone mentioned that if there is an error flash will just ignore all the script and cycle through the frames. That seems really wierd to me that Flash would just ignore everything if there is a single error in the script. Is that indeed the case?

I did get some errors, but looking around on other forums did not help me figure out what they meant.

Here's what came up:

Text support is limited. It is generally recommended to include text as HTML elements (see DOMElement). (125)

Only circular (not oval) radial gradients are supported.

Frame numbers in EaselJS start at 0 instead of 1. For example, this affects gotoAndStop and gotoAndPlay calls. (3)

Content with both Bitmaps and Buttons may generate local security errors in some browsers if run from the local file system.

So will I not be able to do anything as long as any of these erros arise? If that's the case, other than googling through a bunch of forums that may or may not explain things in language I can understand, does Adobe provide a resource to help users address specific errors? Other than the gradient, I have no idea what any of these means, and looking thorugh the forums did not help.

What I'm trying to do should be really simple, but this is giving me a lot of trouble. I've gone through a bunch of Lynda tutorials, Youtube tutorials and even Adobe tutorials and I thought I was ready to start adding actions, but obviously I'm missing something fundamental. Please help me out!

Cheers!

Patrick
